Susie Hoggan, the new Comely Park School Makar, has made a very good start to her tenure already! Here are two brilliant poems celebrating going back to school and an international event involving all the classes learning about a different country around the world. I get a real sense that Susie is a talented poet, and look forward to reading more from her as the year progresses. See what you think!
Susie has been writing more since I first posted these two poems, and I have been very impressed by her latest work! You’ll see the next three poems, about Halloween, Guy Fawkes Night and Remembrance Day, are full of vivid imagery and sophisticated language. The first one is downright scary!
With January comes Burns Night, the annual celebration of all things Scottish! Susie has written a new poem sprinkled with rich Scots vocabulary, made famous by our national poet, Robert Burns. I think this is a fine piece and very fitting for the occasion!
